Understanding the fully accessible version of Imagine Language & Literacy

Imagine Learning is committed to meeting diverse student needs. The standard version of Imagine Language & Literacy (IL&L) contains student-controlled accessibility features such as volume settingstablet mode, and subtitles

For students rostered in Grades K–5 who need additional accommodations, Imagine Learning released a fully accessible version of Imagine Language & Literacy (IL&L) in Spring 2026. This version complies with international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including Section 508.

The fully accessible version includes student-controlled features such as:

  • Alt text for images: Screen readers can read a description of images aloud to help blind or visually-impaired students.
  • Strong color contrast: Text and background colors are easier to distinguish, which can help students read on screen.
  • Keyboard navigation: Students can move through the program and use its features with a keyboard.
  • Captions for videos: Students can choose to view the text version of the words spoken during videos.

Administrators and Teachers can assign the fully accessible version to any student in their purview, either during the account creation process or by editing the student's account during the school year. It is a manual setting. If your school uses Clever or ClassLink for rostering, this data point is not sent on the rostering files to Imagine Learning, so it must be edited manually using the rostering tools.

Imagine Learning recommends enabling the fully accessible version of IL&L only when students are unable to comfortably use the standard version. The accessible version is a simplified version that does not provide a unique starting point for students based on how well they do on an initial assessment. Instead, it delivers grade-level content to the student based on their rostered grade.

Reporting is also different for students using the fully accessible version. Their data does not display alongside other student data in the educator portal. Limited student data will be available only to Administrators if your organization has at least one student enrolled in the fully accessible version.

The table below highlights the differences between the standard and fully accessible versions:

Feature Included in standard version? Included in fully accessible version?
Rigorous content Yes Yes
Free access to Seuss Corner Yes Yes
Session time Yes No. Session time is not available, even though the option still appears for these students in the rostering tools.
Language support Yes No. The fully accessible version is only available in English, no matter what language is selected in the student's Language Support field.
Game-like environment and student avatars Yes No
Students earn Booster Bits Yes No
Students take assessments Yes

No. Students do not take the Embedded Assessments for program placement or growth measurement, but Mastery Checks are included in each lesson.

If your assessment provider is Imagine Galileo, Imagine+ Assessment, or the NWEA MAP Assessment, those assessments occur outside of Imagine Language & Literacy. Therefore, students may still take them. Students' assessment scores would then be available in the respective provider's portal.

Students receive personalized learning paths Yes No
Students are assigned Portfolio activities Yes No
Educators can create Playlists to assign activities to students Yes No
Educators can view student usage data Yes Yes
Educators can view student growth data Yes No
Educators can view student progress data Yes Yes. Educators can view the number of lessons passed and lesson pass rate, but not details on skills learned.

FAQs

1. Do students enrolled in the fully accessible version of the program log in the same way as students enrolled in the standard version?
Student login must be via Clever or ClassLink or browser-based; the URL for both versions of the program is login.imaginelearning.com.
The Imagine Learning student app will not work for the fully accessible version. See the student experience article for more information.
2. Can I switch students to the accessible version of IL&L and back again?
You can, and students will pick up where they left off in each version, but no data is transferred between the two versions. Students can only be assigned one version at a time.
3. What content will my student be assigned, and can I change this?
Each student in the fully accessible version is assigned grade-level content based on their rostered grade. If you know a student works below or above their rostered grade level, we recommend changing the rostered grade level in the student's account so they get work commensurate with their ability. You can easily change the student's grade level if the student account was manually created by editing their account. If your district uses Clever or ClassLink, consider creating a manual account only for students using the fully accessible version of IL&L.
4. Is the content the same in both versions of the program?
Largely so. However, the fully accessible content is presented solely through videos and multiple choice questions, whereas the standard version contains other question types and formats.
5. Where do I go to see data for students in the fully accessible version?
Data for the fully accessible version is available only for Administrators and is accessed via a separate Cumulative Performance report especially for students using the accessible version.
6. What happens if my student's assessment provider is NWEA or Imagine+ Assessment?
Students will still take that assessment outside of the IL&L program, but the results will not be used to place students in a personalized learning path as they are for students in the standard version of the program. You can view the student scores by going to the NWEA portal or the Imagine+ Assessment product.
7. How can I tell which students are enrolled in the fully accessible version?
Administrators can run the Cumulative Performance report.
Teachers and Administrators can complete an export from the rostering tools. Ensure that the Fully Accessible product setting for Imagine Language & Literacy is a selected column.
