Grading students' written responses in Imagine Galileo

Teachers Administrators can evaluate students' writing in Imagine Galileo by assigning an educator-created formative assessment that contains questions with the item type Written Open Response. All other item types are automatically scored by the program, but when students answer Written Open Response questions, you must manually grade them by following the steps below.

To grade students' writing samples:

  1. Log in to Imagine Galileo.
  2. Go to the dashboard by clicking the speedometer icon at the top of the page.
  3. Choose the applicable class in the Class drop-down menu.
  4. In the Recent Events section, click Test Monitoring for the applicable test.
  5. The Test Monitoring report opens. Click the column header/item number of an orange-colored column. A cell's orange background indicates that a response is ready for scoring, and the score will display as 0 until the item is graded.
  6. The test question displays, along with the grading key if you established a rubric when you created the test. Click View Responses in the top right corner.
  7. Evaluate each student's response, type a score in the Earned Points field, then click Save Scores in the top left.
  8. Click OK in the confirmation window.
  9. Click the X in the top right to return to the Test Monitoring report. The points you awarded will now display in the report.
