Imagine MyPath's Assignment Builder is a tool that Teachers and Administrators can use to create assignments that support personalized learning in their classrooms. Assignments can be made up of lessons or pre-built formative assessments. Once an assignment has been created, you can use the Assignment Wizard to assign the assignment to individual students, small groups, or entire classes.
Use this article to learn how to create an assignment.
To create a new assignment
- Log in to the Imagine MyPath suite.
- Teachers: Click Assignment Builder in the left navigation pane.
Administrators with access to multiple schools: Click Assignment Builder in the left navigation pane, then choose the desired school.
- In the Content Explorer, select either Lessons or Formatives, and then choose a Subject and Enrolled Grade. Click Search to see the available content that matches your initial search criteria.

Formatives: K-8This is your students’ rostered grade level and helps identify content as Below, On, or Above grade level during your search. It also ensures that the selected content is delivered to your students in an age-appropriate manner. Note
An assignment can be made up of lessons or formatives, but not both, because each content type serves a particular purpose. Lessons contain multiple activities designed to support student learning and follow a gradual-release model that culminates in a mastery check that you can use to make personalized instructional decisions. Formatives are standalone mastery checks specifically meant to inform instructional decisions.
- Use the filters to modify the results, if desired, or search for content using a title, description, domain, or standard code.
Click here to view the available filters and their descriptionsClicking Filters opens the Filters menu. Active Filters are shown at the top. Click an arrow to expand a section and make other selections, if desired, and then click Apply to view the content that meets your new criteria. Click Reset Filters to return to your original Subject and Content Grade selections. If you want to start over, close the Filters menu and click the Assignment Builder icon in the left-side panel. This screenshot shows the available filters when searching for Lessons. For Formatives, only the Subject and Grade filters are available.
This table describes the available filters and their options.
Filter Description Subject This is the subject of the content you are searching for. Lessons are available in Math, Reading, Science, and Purpose, depending on what your school or district purchased. Only Math and Reading are available for Formatives. Enrolled Grade or Grade This is the rostered grade level of your students. Grades K-12 are the available options for Lessons; grades K-8 are available for Formatives. Lesson Skill Level Choose to see content that is Below, On, or Above your students' rostered grade level. Filter not available for Formatives. Appropriate For This filter ensures that content is delivered to students in a developmentally appropriate manner. The available grade bands are K-2, 3-5, and 6-12. Your initial Content Grade selection determines the grade band to start, but you can choose other grade bands if needed. For example, if you have a Grade 6 student who would benefit from learning the content in smaller chunks, with more scaffolding or more visually stimulating elements, then you could choose the 3-5 grade band instead. Filter not available for Formatives. Lesson Type Lessons are categorized as either Instruction or Practice. Most lessons will be the Instruction type and are available for Grades K-12. Practice lessons are currently only available in Math for Grades K-2 and are great supplements to whole-class instruction. If you choose the Practice option and your search doesn't return any results, confirm that you have selected Math as the Subject and K, 1, or 2 as the Enrolled Grade. Filter not available for Formatives. - Click a lesson name (or formative name) to preview the content and download resources, if available.

Use the checkboxes to select the lesson(s) or formative(s) you would like to add to your assignment.
Note
If a K-5 student has the Spanish Language setting turned on for math or science in their profile and you assign a math or science assignment with a Spanish version, the student will receive the lesson in Spanish. - Click Add to and choose either New Assignment or Existing Draft within the drop-down list that appears.

If you clicked New Assignment in the previous step, give the assignment a unique name, and then click Continue to save the assignment as a draft.
If you clicked Existing Draft in the previous step, select the assignment you wish to add content to, and then click Continue to proceed.
- A panel appears on the right with the lessons or formatives you have added so far. If you add more content, you can change the order by dragging and dropping a lesson or formative to another place in the list. You can also remove content by clicking the trashbin icon next to an item.
- When ready, click Assign to proceed with assigning the assignment to students. You can also return later to make edits to the assignment from the Drafts view of the Assignment Dashboard.
