Creating a class in the Imagine Math suite

This article applies to Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts.

If you are a District Administrator, School Administrator, or Educator, you can create classes in Imagine Math. When creating a class, you need to specify the class name and whether or not the class is active, and then change any class settings that you want. Class settings include the ability to restrict students from avatar building and accessory purchases during specific days and hours, allow students to use the built-in calculator, allow Imagine Math to handle pathway enrollments, and enable sound effects during math practice.

If your class includes both PreK-2 and Grade 3+ students (such as SPED and ELL classes), you can decide whether to apply PreK-2 settings and/or Grade 3+ settings. (Using the Grade 3+ default settings is the most common.)

If you are a District Administrator or School Administrator, after you create your class, you can assign or unassign teachers and add students to it. If your class uses both Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts, you only have to roster students once in either product and then you can specify the Imagine Math or Imagine Math Facts-specific settings you want to apply.

When you see Managed by SIS next to accounts or classes, it means that your district uses a Student Information System (SIS) integration tool to manage school administrator, educator, class, and student accounts within your district. In order to update these accounts, you need to contact your district's IT staff since they have permissions to make account changes.

Before you begin

  • Check with your district to ensure that classes are not being automatically managed by a SIS integration tool.
  • Check with your Site Administrator or District Administrator to ensure that your school has already been created and configured in Imagine Math.
  • Check with your Site Administrator, District Administrator, or School Administrator to ensure that your staff account has already been created in Imagine Math.

To create a class

  1. Log in to the Imagine Math portal.
  2. If you are a District Administrator, click Management > Schools in the navigation pane, find your school, then click Classes under the Actions column.

If you are a School Administrator or Educator, click Management > Classrooms in the navigation pane.

  3. Click Create a Class.

  4. Enter a name for your class. If you have multiple classes, use names that easily identify each one. (For example, you can use a "subject - period" naming convention for class names, as in "Algebra 1 - 6th Period" or "Algebra 1 - Block 6.")

  5. Enter the information for your new class:
    • If you are creating a new class that uses Imagine Math PreK-2, click Active in the Imagine Math settings to activate the class, then click Save.

If you are creating a class that uses Imagine Math PreK-2, the Avatar Settings and Grade 3+ settings are ignored.

    • If you are creating a new class that uses Imagine Math Grade 3+, skip to Step 6 and specify the Imagine Math settings.
    • If you are creating a new class that uses Imagine Math Facts, skip to Step 7 and specify the Imagine Math Facts settings.
  6. If you are using Imagine Math Grade 3+ in this class, check the box for each Imagine Math setting that you want to apply.

    Setting Description
    Avatar Settings

Specifies the days and times when students are restricted from building their avatar or purchasing accessories. (For more information, see Restricting avatar building and accessory purchases (Grade 3+ only).

Allow students in this class to use the built-in calculator?

Allows  students to use the built-in calculator for math problems.

Even if you disable the built-in calculator, it will still appear for some items on the Benchmark assessment where it has been deemed necessary by our partner, MetaMetrics.

Allow Imagine math to manage pathway enrollments?

Checks whether a student's default grade level pathway has been automatically assigned to them the first time the student enters the classroom. If it hasn't been assigned to them, Imagine Math automatically assigns the pathway to the student.

If this setting is disabled, Imagine Math doesn't check the student's default grade level pathway or make any pathway assignments.

Enable sound effects while students are doing math?

Allows sound effects to play during math practice sessions.

Activates or deactivates the class. Classes that are active are visible to students and students in those classes can log in to Imagine Math Grade 3+. (For more information, see Activating or deactivating a class.)

  7. If you are using Imagine Math Facts in this class, check the box for each Imagine Math Facts settings that you want to apply.

    Setting Description
    Operation Ordering

Specifies that students must pass an operation with 90% or greater on the post-test before they can move on to the next operation, and the order in which students complete different operations. By default, the order of operations is: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

You can rearrange the operations in the order that you want students to complete them. To reorder the operations, click the left or right arrow to move an operation one position to the left or right.

    Friendly Mode

Specifies whether or not to enable Friendly Mode. When Friendly Mode is enabled, most enemies won't attack the student's avatar if they answer a question incorrectly, and if they do attack, the enemies won't cause any damage.

  8. Click Save.
  9. Click Active Classes to find your new class in the Active Classes list.
