Understanding core-aligned pathways in Imagine+ Math

Core-aligned pathways are an optional setup that lets a district or school use Mastery pathways in Imagine+ Math that align more closely to a core curriculum's scope and sequence than the default grade-level pathway. This setup can be applied across a district, for selected schools, or for selected grade levels within a district or school.

How core-aligned pathways fit in Imagine+ Math

All students begin in the Mastery pathway by default in Imagine+ Math. The Mastery pathway provides structured grade-level practice for most students.

Imagine+ Math also includes a Builder pathway for students who need targeted support or enrichment. Educators can move students from Mastery to Builder when assessment results or classroom observations show that a different pathway better meets their needs.

Core-aligned pathways are Mastery pathways, not a separate pathway type. When a core-aligned pathway is set up for an organization, it replaces the default grade-level Mastery pathway for the selected grades.

What changes in a core-aligned pathway

A core-aligned pathway changes the sequence of grade-level lessons so the pathway follows your core curriculum more closely. It does not change how the Mastery pathway adapts to each student.

  • The order of lessons follows the selected core curriculum's scope and sequence more closely.
  • The pathway still uses the same adaptivity, placement, and acceleration logic as the default Mastery pathway.
  • The pathway still appears as Mastery in Imagine+ Math reports.

Core curriculum options

Imagine+ Math offers core-aligned Mastery pathway options for several core math programs, including Illustrative Mathematics, Eureka Math, enVision, GO Math, Bluebonnet Learning, and more. The options available to your school or district depend on how your organization is set up.

To see whether your school is using a core-aligned Mastery pathway and which grades have curriculum overrides, go to the Student Placement page and click the information icon (ipa_report_info-icon.png) next to the Mastery Path chip.

What teachers can expect

In the Upcoming view of the Student Progress report, lessons follow the assigned core-aligned sequence rather than the default grade-level sequence. Teachers can continue to use Imagine+ Math data and instructional tools alongside the assigned pathway, and they can still move students to the Builder pathway when students need targeted support or enrichment.

What admins can expect

Core-aligned pathways can be applied at the district level, school level, or grade level within an organization. If only some grade levels have pathways available, only those grade levels receive the override, and the remaining grades keep the default grade-level pathway.

Placement and reporting

Imagine+ Math can use data from Imagine+ Diagnostic, NWEA MAP Growth, or Renaissance Star to inform placement. A core-aligned pathway still responds to placement and performance data as students move through lessons.

Core-aligned pathways display as Mastery in reports. To confirm which curriculum alignment is active, use the information icon on the Student Placement page.
