All students begin in the Mastery pathway. Assign the Builder pathway when a student needs foundational skill development or enrichment, or assign Mastery when a student needs structured grade-level practice. Assigning a different pathway creates a new learning path; it does not automatically remove the student’s current pathway.
When to assign a different pathway
- Assign Builder when the student needs foundational skill development or enrichment.
- Assign Mastery when the student is ready for structured grade-level practice.
- Consider a manual change when classroom observations or local data do not match the student’s assessment results.
Note
Imagine+ Math may recommend a different pathway after an assessment. It does not automatically change a student from Mastery to Builder or from Builder to Mastery. To learn more about pathway recommendations, see Viewing and managing pathway recommendations in Imagine+ Math.
Recommendation
Use Assignment Builder for short-term remediation, practice, or enrichment without changing a student's pathway. Limit pathway changes to no more than two per school year.
Assign the new pathway
To assign a different pathway:
- Log in to the Product Portal and select the MyPath Math / Imagine+ Math tile.
- Open Student Placement for your role. Teachers: select a class, then select Student Placement in the upper navigation.
Administrators: select Users in the left navigation, then select the Student Placement card.
- Locate the student, select the more options icon (
), and select Assign Builder Path or Assign Mastery Path.
- Select the Placement Grade.
- Optional: Select Lock Placement to prevent future assessments from changing this pathway’s placement. To learn more, see Managing a student’s learning path settings.
- Optional: If you assign Builder one or more grades above the student’s rostered grade, select Enable Content Bridge to assign selected rostered-grade lessons before above-grade content. To learn more, see Managing a student’s learning path settings.
- Select Assign.
- A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the page.
Decide what to do with the previous pathway
After you assign the new pathway, choose whether the student should continue using the previous pathway.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Keep active | The student can continue to access both pathways. |
| Pause pathway | The pathway is hidden from the student. Its placement, progress, and usage data remain visible in educator reports. |
| Deactivate learning path | The pathway is hidden from the student and removed from reports. |
To pause or deactivate the previous pathway:
- Locate the student’s previous pathway and select the more options icon (
).
- Select Deactivate Learning Path or Pause Pathway.
- Select Yes in the confirmation window.
- A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the page.
- Tell the student which pathway to use, especially if the student was working in a lesson when you made the change.
