Use Imagine+ Diagnostic with Imagine+ Math to assess students, update overall placement, and help identify students who may benefit from moving between the Mastery and Builder pathways. All students begin in the Mastery pathway. This article explains what to confirm before testing, what students experience, and what to check after students complete the Diagnostic.
Before you schedule a Diagnostic
Before you schedule a Diagnostic, confirm that students have access to Imagine+ Assessment and Imagine+ Math.
- Your organization has licenses for Imagine+ Assessment and Imagine+ Math.
- Imagine+ Diagnostic is set as the assessment provider for Imagine+ Math.
- In the Product Portal, students and classes are assigned to Imagine+ Assessment and MyPath Math/Imagine+ Math.
When possible, allow approximately 45 days between Diagnostic assessment windows so students have time to respond to instruction and demonstrate growth.
Note
Imagine+ Assessment is licensed separately from Imagine+ Math. If you cannot confirm your organization’s product access or assessment-provider setup, contact your Imagine Learning Customer Success Manager before you schedule the Diagnostic.
How the Diagnostic works with Imagine+ Math
Imagine+ Math uses the student’s overall placement to determine whether to provide a pathway recommendation. Students assessed 2 or more grade levels below or 1 or more grade levels above their rostered grade may receive a recommendation for the Builder pathway. Domain-level results personalize content within the student’s current pathway.
- An administrator uses the Flexible Scheduler in Imagine+ Assessment to schedule a Diagnostic for students at the district, school, class, or student level.
- During an open assessment window, students included in the schedule can open the Diagnostic from the Imagine+ Assessment tile.
- When Imagine+ Math is configured to use Imagine+ Diagnostic results, students who select the MyPath Math/Imagine+ Math tile during an open assessment window are directed to their scheduled Diagnostic before they continue in Imagine+ Math.
- After students complete the Diagnostic, Imagine+ Math processes the results and may update the student's overall placement. It can also use domain-level Diagnostic results to adjust the student's learning path.
- When a pathway recommendation is available, an alert appears on the educator's Classes or Student Placement page.
Note
Later Diagnostic results can update the student’s overall placement and generate updated pathway recommendations. If Lock Placement is enabled, future assessment results do not automatically change the student's overall placements, but the learning path can still adapt based on lesson performance.
What students experience
- Students who have an open scheduled Diagnostic may be directed to the Diagnostic when they select the MyPath Math/Imagine+ Math tile.
- Students can pause the Diagnostic and continue it in another session while the assessment window remains open.
Check results after students complete the Diagnostic
After students complete the Diagnostic, confirm that results are available in Imagine+ Assessment. Then verify each student's placement and review any available pathway recommendations in Imagine+ Math.
To check a student’s Diagnostic results:
- In Imagine+ Assessment, confirm that the student’s Diagnostic status is Completed.
- Confirm that the student’s results appear in the Diagnostic Report.
- Allow up to 3 days for Imagine+ Math to process the completed Diagnostic results.
- In Imagine+ Math, open the Student Placement page and review the student's overall placement, placement source, and placement date.
- Review any available pathway recommendation for the student. Applying a recommendation does not delete the student's previous work or learning history. See Viewing and managing pathway recommendations in Imagine+ Math.
Success
The process is complete when the student's results appear in the Diagnostic Report and you have reviewed the student's placement and any available pathway recommendation in Imagine+ Math.
Troubleshoot the Diagnostic
Select the situation that best matches what you see.
Check the following:
- The student has access to Imagine+ Assessment and Imagine+ Math.
- The student is included in a Diagnostic schedule.
- The assessment window is open.
- Imagine+ Diagnostic is the assessment provider for Imagine+ Math.
If your role allows, correct the student’s access or schedule. Otherwise, ask an administrator to make the update. If you cannot confirm the assessment-provider setting, contact your Imagine Learning Customer Success Manager.
In the Product Portal, confirm that the student is assigned the Imagine+ Assessment tile and the MyPath Math/Imagine+ Math tile.
If your organization uses automated rostering, ask an administrator to review the student’s class assignment and product access.
Check the student’s assessment status in Imagine+ Assessment. If the assessment window is still open, have the student return to the Diagnostic and complete it.
If the assessment window has closed, ask an administrator to review the schedule and reopen or update it if needed.
A completed Diagnostic can update overall placement, adjust the learning path using domain-level results, or provide a pathway recommendation. Confirm the following:
- The Diagnostic status is Completed.
- Results appear in the Diagnostic Report.
- The student and class have access to Imagine+ Math.
- Imagine+ Diagnostic is the assessment provider for Imagine+ Math.
- The student's overall placement, placement source, and placement date on the Student Placement page reflect the completed Diagnostic result.
- Lock Placement is not enabled for the student's placement.
Some organizations use different assessment providers for different grade levels or products. If your organization uses more than one provider, ask your Imagine Learning Customer Success Manager to confirm which provider applies to the student.
If it has been more than 3 days since the student completed the Diagnostic, contact Imagine Learning Support or your Customer Success Manager.
Review the student’s diagnostic results, assessment time, and any Rapid Guessing flag in the Diagnostic Report. Use this information with other available evidence to decide whether to reassign the Diagnostic or manually update the student's placement. Contact Imagine Learning Support if the result or product behavior still appears incorrect.
A completed Diagnostic does not always result in a recommendation to move between the Mastery and Builder pathways. Pathway recommendations are based on the student's overall placement. Domain-level results can personalize the current learning path without generating a recommendation to change pathways.
If you expected a recommendation and do not see one after 3 days, contact Imagine Learning Support or your Customer Success Manager.
