Using Imagine+ Diagnostic with Imagine+ Math

Imagine+ Diagnostic is a computer-adaptive benchmark assessment that can be used to determine student placement in Imagine+ Math. This article explains how Imagine+ Diagnostic fits into the placement workflow, what to expect with syncing results, how pathway recommendation alerts are presented, and where you can find more detailed information.

How Imagine+ Diagnostic supports placement in Imagine+ Math

  • Assessment administration: When the Imagine+ Diagnostic has been scheduled and is set as the placement provider in Imagine+ Math, students are automatically routed to take the assessment if they click the Imagine+ Math tile during the open testing window.
  • Default pathway start: All students are initially placed in the Math Mastery pathway for structured, grade-level practice.
  • Assessment-based recommendations: After students complete the Imagine+ Diagnostic, the system evaluates their overall assessed grade:
    • If a student's assessed overall grade is 2 or more grades below or 1 or more grades above their rostered grade, Imagine+ Math recommends a move to the Math Builder pathway.
    • If a student is assessed as being on grade level or just 1 grade below, they remain on the Mastery pathway.
  • Pathway placement alerts: Educators see alerts on their class lists or Student Placement pages whenever new recommendations are available. These alerts allow teachers and admins to review and apply pathway changes based on assessment results.
    • Alerts are shown regardless of whether the student's current placement originated manually or by a previous assessment.
    • Teachers and administrators can accept recommendations individually or in bulk. Locked placements prevent automatic changes, but do not block manual acceptance of recommendations.
    • Accepting a recommendation safely activates the new pathway; student learning progress is maintained.
    • Alerts reset upon application and no further recommendations are triggered for that student until the next assessment.
  • Manual placement: Educators retain full control and can assign, override, or undo pathway placements at any time, in addition to following system recommendations.

Key considerations for educators

  • Student experience: During an open Diagnostic window, students launching Imagine+ Math will be taken directly to the test in Imagine+ Assessment, streamlining access and administration.
  • Automated data sync: Pathway placement alerts and recommendations typically appear within three days of completing the Imagine+ Diagnostic.
  • Returning and new students: Students keep last year’s placement until new assessment data is available. New students can be manually assigned a placement if they haven’t completed the Diagnostic yet.
  • Assessment scheduling and frequency: Administrators use the Scheduler tool in Imagine Assessment to assign and manage Diagnostic assessment windows for your students. To monitor growth, space Diagnostic administrations at least 45 days apart.
  • Bulk application and workflow: You can apply pathway recommendations in bulk to maintain consistency and save time across classes or schools.
