Overview of Imagine+ Diagnostic

Imagine+ Diagnostic in Imagine+ Assessment is a computer-adaptive assessment for Grades K–12 in Math and Reading. It helps educators determine each student's instructional level and track growth over time.

Key features

  • Adaptive assessment: The diagnostic adjusts question difficulty as students answer, which helps provide an accurate measure of ability.
  • Multiple domains: The diagnostic measures performance across multiple content areas in Math and Reading. For more information, see Imagine+ Diagnostic domains and grade levels.
  • Technology-enhanced items: Students answer question types such as drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, and multiple-choice.
  • Three-stage structure: The diagnostic is divided into three parts, with short breaks between sections.
  • Spanish Math option: A Spanish Math diagnostic is available for Grades K–12 to help reduce language barriers.

Administration

  • Scheduling: Administrators use the Scheduler tool to set up assessment windows and assign assessments to students.
  • Question count: Each subject includes about 30–45 questions, depending on grade and student performance.
  • Estimated time: Students usually need 45–60 minutes per subject.
  • Flexibility: Students can pause and return later. Progress is auto-saved.

 Note

An incomplete diagnostic expires after 30 days. After the testing window closes, students can no longer access, resume, or submit their assessment. To help students finish, administrators can extend the end date, reopen a closed window, or reschedule the assessment.

Student experience

 Note

Students only see a diagnostic when its test window is open. If a student starts but does not finish, their status stays In Progress, and their results do not appear in reports until the student submit the diagnostic.

Reports and data

After students complete the diagnostic, results are available in the Diagnostic Report. The report shows overall placement, domain performance, and growth data at the district, school, class, and student levels, and it can be exported as a CSV file or printed.

Report data includes:

  • Overall scaled scores: Show each student's grade-level placement.
  • Domain scores: Show performance in specific skill areas.
  • Quantile and Lexile measures: Include Quantile® measures for Math and Lexile® measures for Reading.
  • Growth percentiles: Compare student growth to peers nationally.
