Note
This article applies to the following products:
- Imagine MyPath Math
- Imagine MyPath Reading
- Imagine+ Math
Teachers and Administrators can change a student's placement grade on the Student Placement page. The change applies only to the subject and learning path in the selected row.
To manage Lock Placement or Enable Content Bridge, see Managing student learning path settings.
When to edit a placement
You may need to change a placement when:
- Assessment results do not match the student's current skill level.
- The student completed their learning path and needs a new placement to continue.
- The student needs a different level of challenge or support.
Recommendation
In Imagine+ Math, the Mastery pathway provides on-grade-level practice. For a placement above the student's rostered grade, we recommend assigning the Builder pathway.
If a student has completed their Mastery pathway, you can provide enrichment by assigning Builder at a higher placement grade or assigning lessons through Assignment Builder.

Edit a placement grade
Caution
Changing a placement grade replaces placement grades that diagnostic assessments assigned for individual domains with a standard grade-level placement.
If you want the learning path to reflect updated Imagine+ Diagnostic results, consider reassigning the Imagine+ Diagnostic instead.
To change a student's placement grade:
-
Find the student's row for the subject and learning path you want to edit. Use Filters to narrow the list.
- Subject: Select Math or Reading.
- Grade Level: Select the student's rostered grade—the grade listed in their account—if needed.
You can also search by student name.
In Imagine+ Math, if the student has both Mastery and Builder pathways, choose the row for the pathway you want to change.
-
Select the three-dot icon in the student's row to open the Actions menu, then select Edit Placement.
-
Select a grade from the New Overall Placement drop-down list.
-
Select Update.
The placement change takes effect immediately. The updated learning path may include additional lessons and replace lessons that were previously upcoming. If the student is working on a lesson, they can finish it before moving into the updated lesson sequence.
In the student's Student Progress report, select Upcoming to review the updated lesson sequence. Completed work remains visible in the view for Current and Completed lessons.
