Reassigning Placement and Benchmark tests in Imagine Language & Literacy

 Caution

This article only applies to organizations who have chosen the default embedded Benchmarks as their placement/assessment method in Imagine Language & Literacy. This article does not apply to students taking the Imagine Galileo ELA Benchmark or the NWEA™ MAP® Growth Assessment.

Reassigning an assessment allows students to start it over from the beginning and wipes out any previous scores they received for that assessment. In Imagine Language & Literacy, reassigning can happen in 2 ways: automatically or manually.

Automatic Reassignments

Automatic reassignments occur under certain conditions when tests expire.

If a student begins a Benchmark test but doesn't finish it within 28 calendar days, the student's testing status changes from In Progress to Expired; no score will be provided for that test if the student doesn't log back in before the test window closes. However, if the student does log back after the test expires and the same test window is still open, the program will reassign the test and the student will automatically restart the test from the beginning.

The student's testing status changes from Expired back to In Progress, and if they complete the test, their status changes to Completed and their score will appear on educator reports.

 Notes regarding automatic reassignments:

  • Only Benchmark tests can be automatically reassigned; Placement tests never expire, so the auto-reassign use case does not apply to Placement tests.
  • It is possible for a Benchmark to be automatically reassigned more than once in the same testing window. Ensuring that students log in on a consistent basis will prevent this.
  • Only expired tests can be automatically reassigned.
  • The program will not auto-reassign the Reading Level Assessment (RLA)

Manual Reassignments

Manual reassignments are made at the Teacher's or Administrator's discretion after viewing students' completed test results.

If a student receives a Placement test or Benchmark test score that doesn't seem appropriate for their skill level, you can reassign the test to any student in your purview. After reassignment, the student receives a new Placement or Benchmark test the next time they log in to Imagine Language & Literacy; no progress is retained from their initial assessment.

 Notes regarding manual reassignments:

  • You can only reassign a Placement test or Benchmark test for the current testing window.
  • The testing window must still be open; if the window has closed or has been disabled, the tests can't be reassigned.
  • Only completed tests can be manually reassigned. Tests that are in progress can't be reassigned.
  • Reassigning tests is done on a student-by-student basis.
  • The Reading Level Assessment (RLA) can't be reassigned manually by educators; contact Imagine Learning Product Support to request assistance.

 Caution

Once a student completes a reassigned test, the student's original Literacy and Oral Vocabulary scores for that testing period are removed and cannot be restored. Only the scores from the reassigned test will display.

Reassigning a Placement test will:

  • Invalidate the most recent Placement test score for that test period. The student's most recent Placement test score will display in reports until the student completes the reassigned test.
  • Remove the prior Placement test score from future reports once the new score takes its place.
  • Administer the Placement test to the student the next time they log in.
  • Restart the student in the Imagine Language & Literacy curriculum.

Reassigning a Benchmark test will:

  • Invalidate the most recent Benchmark score for that test period.
  • Remove the most recent Benchmark score for that testing period from any reports.
  • Administer the Benchmark test to the student the next time they log in.
  • Preserve the student's prior progress in the Imagine Language & Literacy curriculum.
