Using Imagine Language & Literacy with the Imagine+ Assessment ELA Diagnostic

 Caution

This article applies only to organizations using the Imagine+ Assessment (I+A) ELA Diagnostic for assessment and placement in Imagine Language & Literacy (IL&L). If you aren't sure which assessment provider your school is using, read Checking which assessment option your organization is using.

When your organization uses the Imagine+ Diagnostic as its assessment provider, an Administrator must first schedule the assessment so that it is available for students to take.

After students take their assessment, IL&L places your students in their correct starting point in the program's learning path by mapping the Imagine+ Diagnostic scores to the applicable IL&L instructional content. Student placements are also updated as necessary based on subsequent Diagnostic results throughout the year.

Student experience

Upon initial sign-in to the Imagine Learning Product Portal, students will not have access to IL&L content until they finish the Diagnostic for their rostered grade level.

To take the Imagine+ Diagnostic (instructions for students):

  1. Click either the Imagine+ Assessment tile or the Language & Literacy tile to access and begin the assessment.

  2. Clicking either of these tiles brings students to their list of test(s) in Imagine+ Assessment. From here, click Start for the applicable assessment.

  7. After the initial Diagnostic, students will hear the theme song in IL&L, be permitted to work on their avatar for 90 seconds, and/or be given additional mini-diagnostics. In some cases, the students' next activity may be a pre-test to further refine the content they'll be given in their learning path. Rest assured that the "Testing in Progress" message in the bottom left corner of the screen does not indicate another full-length assessment, but rather a pre-test to ensure that students begin their IL&L curriculum in exactly the right place. Pre-tests can usually be completed in under 10 minutes.

  8. Later in the year as subsequent Diagnostics are scheduled for students, students will again have access to the assessment from both the Language & Literacy tile and the Imagine+ Assessment tiles, and their IL&L learning path will be temporarily paused until the assessment is complete.

With each Diagnostic score throughout the year, students' placement is reevaluated. If a student moves to a different grade-level classification (such as moving from on grade level to above, or from on grade level to 1 grade below), their learning path is adjusted to move them forward or backward in content in the Literacy strand only. (The Grammar and Oral Vocabulary strands are not affected). Students who move backward in the content are not prompted to repeat lessons that they have already completed, as only content that students previously skipped will now be delivered.

FAQ: What happens if students log in to the Product Portal before an Administrator schedules their test?
If students attempt to access the assessment via the IL&L title, they will see this message:
