Caution
- This article does not apply to students taking the NWEA™ MAP® Growth Assessment.
- Performance levels apply to students taking the Imagine Math Benchmarks in Grade K and up; PreK students do not receive a performance level.
Performance levels are labels used to describe students’ performance when instructed on grade-level skills and concepts. They can help you group students and determine appropriate instruction.
Students' performance levels are determined by the Quantile® measure students receive from taking the Imagine Math Benchmark test. Each performance level has cutoff Quantile ranges per grade level. The cut scores define expected student proficiency by the end of the school year.
Teachers and Administrators can view students' performance levels on the Benchmark report for students in Grades K and up. The class-level view of the Growth section of the Benchmark report indicates the percentage of the class in each performance level.
Clicking on a class name enables you to view each student's performance level on Benchmark 1 and the most recent subsequent Benchmark.
Clicking on a student's name opens the Student Progress report. For students in Imagine Math 3+, the performance level also displays on this report.
The default Imagine Math Performance Levels are listed below.
Note
Some states have partnered with MetaMetrics to determine their own performance levels with their own Quantile ranges and naming conventions. If your in-program view of performance levels differs from the below, view the information for your state by clicking Performance Level Guide at the top of the Benchmark report.
• Advanced: These students exhibit advanced performance when tested on grade-level skills and concepts. Teachers should consider adjusting the pathways of these students to a higher grade level.
• Proficient: These students exhibit appropriate performance when tested on grade-level skills and concepts. These students should experience success on a grade-level pathway with few remediation lessons included.
• Basic: These students exhibit some appropriate performance when tested on grade-level skills and concepts. These students should experience success on a grade-level pathway with some remediation lessons included.
• Below Basic: These students generally exhibit minimally appropriate performance when tested on grade-level skills and concepts. These students should be able to work back up to grade-level material with precursor and/or remediation lessons included.
• Far Below Basic: These students generally do not exhibit any appropriate performance when tested on grade-level skills and concepts. These students may not be able to work back up to grade-level material with the included precursor and remediation lessons. Teachers should monitor students’ progress to determine if an alternative pathway is necessary.
Reminder
The labels indicate grade-level targets for the end of the academic year. For example, a student in Grade 2 would be considered Proficient by obtaining a Quantile measure between 190 and 670 on their last Benchmark in Grade 2. When students score in non-proficient levels earlier in the year, they'll have the opportunity to respond to instruction and lessons within Imagine Math to show improvement and growth on the subsequent test(s).
