Note
This article applies to the following products:
- Imagine MyPath Math
- Imagine MyPath Reading
- Imagine+ Math
In Imagine MyPath and Imagine+ Math, Teachers and Administrators can manage two key pathway options from the Student Placement page:
- Lock Placement: Prevents future assessment results from automatically changing a student's placement grade. The path will still adapt based on student performance within lessons.
- Enable Content Bridge: Allows students placed above their rostered grade to review important on-grade skills before advancing. This setting is visible when a student is placed one or more grades above their rostered grade.
Note
For step-by-step instructions on how to change a student’s placement grade, see Editing a student's placement.

Learning path setting details
After you open the Edit Placement modal, use the guidance below to decide when to use each setting and understand what happens after you turn it on.
Lock Placement
Use Lock Placement when you want to keep a student’s current placement grade from changing automatically after future assessment results. This can be helpful when you have already reviewed the student’s data and want to hold the placement steady for a period of time.
When to use it
- A recent assessment score does not seem to reflect the student’s current skills and you do not want the program to adjust the placement grade automatically.
- You have manually reviewed a student’s placement and want to keep that placement in place while you monitor lesson performance.
- You want to avoid frequent placement changes during a short period of progress monitoring or intervention.
Keep in mind
- Lock Placement stops future assessment results from changing the placement grade automatically, but the student’s learning path can still adapt within lessons based on performance.
- This setting applies only to the selected placement. If the student has more than one learning path, update each one separately as needed.
- To allow future assessments to update the placement again, return to Edit Placement and clear the Lock Placement checkbox.
Enable Content Bridge
Use Enable Content Bridge when a student is placed one or more grades above their rostered grade and would benefit from reviewing important on-grade skills before moving fully into above-grade content. The setting is only available for students who meet that placement condition.
When to use it
- You want to give a student a smoother transition into above-grade work instead of starting immediately at the higher placement grade.
- A student is ready for more challenging content overall but may still need a quick review of key skills from their rostered grade.
- You want to reinforce grade-level foundations before the student advances through a more accelerated path.
Keep in mind
- If Enable Content Bridge is turned off, eligible students begin directly in content at their placement grade.
- If you turn the setting off after a student has already started bridge lessons, completed bridge work stays in the student’s record. After the current lesson, the path moves ahead to the placement grade.
- The learning path can still adapt if the student needs remediation, and domain prioritization is not changed by turning this setting on or off.
