Manually assigning a placement grade to a student in Imagine MyPath

 Note

This article applies to the following products:

  • Imagine MyPath Math
  • Imagine MyPath Reading

Teachers and Administrators can manually assign a placement grade to a student with a Not Placed status on the Student Placement page in Imagine MyPath. MyPath immediately creates a learning path for that subject based on the grade you select.

To change an existing placement grade or learning path settings, see Editing a student's placement. Administrators can also bulk-assign placement grades to groups of students.

When to assign placement manually

Manual placement can be useful when your organization does not use an assessment to place students in MyPath or when you want to use results from an assessment that isn't integrated with MyPath.

For details, see Assessment and placement options in Imagine MyPath.

Open the Student Placement page

Assign a placement grade

To manually assign a placement grade:

  1. Find the student's row for Math or Reading. Use Filters to narrow the list:

    • Placement: Select Not Placed to show students who need a placement.
    • Subject: Select Math or Reading for the placement you want to assign.
    • Grade Level: Select the student's rostered grade to narrow the list further, if needed.

You can also search by student name.

  2. Select the three-dot icon in the student's row to open the Actions menu.

  5. (Optional) Select the checkbox for any learning path setting you want to enable.

    • Lock Placement: Prevent assessments from automatically changing the placement grade. You can still edit the placement manually later.
    • Enable Content Bridge: Assign a condensed set of lessons at the student's rostered grade before they see above-grade-level content. This option becomes available when you select a placement grade at least 1 grade above the student's rostered grade.

For details about both options, see Managing student learning path settings.

  6. Select Assign.

A confirmation banner appears, and MyPath immediately creates the student's learning path for that subject.

You can review the placement grade, who updated it, and the update date in the blue banner in the student's Student Progress report.
