Viewing, editing, and deleting classes/groups

The steps in this article apply if you have selected to self-roster accounts individually or you are making manual changes with automated rostering.

This article applies to the following products:

  • Imagine Language & Literacy, Imagine Español, Imagine Reading, and Imagine Lectura
  • Imagine Galileo K–12
  • Imagine MyPath, Imagine Science Corner, Imagine Purpose

Teachers and Administrators can view, edit, and delete classes/groups in the products listed above. Included in editing are the abilities to change the products associated with the class or group and the students assigned to it.

Editing and deleting are done from the Classes/Groups page, which contains a list of all classes/groups in your purview. 

To view/locate classes and groups:

  1. Log in to the Product Portal and click Users & Classes/Groups.

  2. Click Classes/Groups at the top of the page.

    The Classes/Groups tab opens with a list of all the entities you have access to. By default, the table is sorted alphabetically by name, A–Z. Click on the Name column header to reverse the sort order.

  3. Use the search bar at the top of the page to locate a specific class/group. You can search by full or partial name or external assigned ID. Type your search term and then click Enter or the magnifying glass to see the results. (You can clear the results later by clicking the X.)

  4. To view a list of classes/groups that have specific products assigned or are a particular synced status, click the arrows to open the filters

    The table below explains each filter.
    Field Description
    Products Select 1 or more products the classes are associated with. Alternately, you can choose No Products to see which classes/groups are not currently tied to a product.

     Note

    Associating a product with a class/group does not assign product access to the students in that class. Instead, it will help with filtering and reporting options that are planned for future release.

    Sync Status

    Choose to view records that are:

    • Synced (from automated imports via Clever, ClassLink, or SFTP)
    • Unsynced (manually created in an Imagine Learning tool or product)

    Synced records have a lock symbol to the left of the class/group name.

  5. Click the box(es) to apply the filter(s). The number of boxes you've checked in each filter displays in a blue circle to the right of the filter name.

    The number of groups who match the filter(s) displays above the table. In this example, 5 groups are assigned Imagine Language & Literacy or MyPath Reading (or both) in the Products filter. Each filter by itself operates using "OR" functionality rather than "AND" functionality.

     Tip

    If you are unable to see all the information in a cell in the table, click on the cell and the entire contents of the cell will display in a pop-up window.

  6. The filters taken together are cumulative. This means that classes/groups must match at least 1 item in all the filters you select in order to display in the results. 

    If no results are found, you will receive a notification. In the example below, there are no synced groups (in the Synced Status filter) that also don't have an associated product (from the Products filter). 

    Click Clear All Filters to reset the filters and start over.

To edit a class/group (includes adding existing students to a class/group):

Several changes can be made to classes/groups, but whether the changes can be performed individually or in bulk depends on the specific action, as detailed in the table below.

Click on a header below to view the applicable instructions to make changes to groups. 

Edit an individual group
  1. Follow the instructions in the Viewing Classes/Groups section to find the applicable class or group.
  2. Click the three dots for the applicable entity, then choose Edit Details, Edit Products, or Edit Students.

  3. Make the desired edits. Refer to the Adding Classes/Groups article if you need additional information on each field.
    • Edit Details allows you to change the name, external assigned ID, organization/school (if you have access to multiple schools), and educators.

       Caution

      If the record was created through a sync (automated import), most fields will not be editable. You must make the changes on the files that get sent to Imagine Learning, and then the record will update accordingly inside the Product Portal. Refer to Making manual changes when using automated rostering for more details.

    • Edit Products allows you to change the product(s) associated with the class/group. Click a product tile to toggle it on and off.

    • Edit Students allows you to change the students(s) assigned to the class/group as detailed in the table below.
      Action Steps
      To remove students: Use the checkboxes to select the applicable student(s), then click Remove.

      To add existing students: Click Add Students.

      Use the checkboxes to select the applicable students and then click Add Students.

      To add new students First, create the students. You can add students to groups as you create their accounts or you can add students to groups later either by editing the students or editing the classes/groups as shown in the row above.
  4. Click Save at the bottom of the window.

  5. The class/group is updated and you'll receive a confirmation at the bottom of your screen.
Edit multiple groups simultaneously (bulk edits)

 Note

The bulk edit option will be grayed out and you will be unable to perform bulk edits if you have selected a mix of manually created groups and groups that are synced via an automated import. In addition, all groups you are attempting to edit must be in the same school.

  1. Follow the instructions in the Viewing Groups section to find the applicable groups, then check the checkboxes to the left of the names of the groups you want to edit.

  2. Click the arrow in the Bulk Actions drop-down menu and select Bulk Edit. Whatever changes you make in the following steps will apply to every class/group you just selected.

  3. Make the desired edits on the Details and/or Products tab(s). Refer to the Adding new classes/groups article if you need additional information on each field.
    • Details allows you to add educators to the groups. Click the magnifying glass, then select the new educator(s). In the screenshot below, Annie Welk is being added to the 2 selected classes. Any other educators that were already associated with the classes will remain.

    • Products allows you to change the product(s) associated with the group. Only the products that your organization has purchased will be available for you to select.  
      Click on the product tiles to alternate between No Change, On, and Off. In the example below, access to Imagine Español is being activated, while access to MyPath Math is being removed.

  4. Click Save at the bottom of each tab (or Continue to save the previous tab's selections and proceed to the next tab, when applicable).

  5. In the verification window, click Start Processing.

  6. The classes/groups are updated and you'll receive a confirmation at the bottom of your screen.

To delete a class/group:

Groups that were created via automated import can't be deleted inside the Imagine Learning products—they must be removed from the import files and then they will be deleted on the next sync.

Groups that were created manually using the in-product rostering tools can be deleted individually and/or in bulk, depending on your role. Administrators can delete groups one-by-one or in bulk, while Teachers can only delete one group at a time. Click on a header below to view the applicable instructions.

 Note

Deleting a group does not delete the students assigned to it. It also does not delete student data. However, students must be assigned to at least 1 group in order for their data to be visible. Ensure that students are assigned to at least 1 other group if you want to view data from their work in the group you are about to delete. Alternately, Administrators can delete the students separately if you need to delete the group and its associated students.

Delete an individual group
  1. Follow the instructions in the Viewing Classes/Groups section to find the applicable entity.
  2. Click the three dots, then choose Delete.

  3. In the confirmation window, click Yes, Delete.

  4. You'll receive a confirmation at the bottom of your screen, and the entity will no longer display in the list of classes/groups.

Delete multiple groups simultaneously (bulk deletions; Administrators only)
  1. Follow the instructions in the Viewing Groups section to find the applicable groups, then check the checkboxes to the left of the groups you want to delete.

  2. Click the arrow in the Bulk Actions drop-down menu and select Delete.

  3. In the confirmation window that opens, click Yes, Delete.

  4. You'll receive a confirmation at the bottom of your screen, and the groups will no longer display on the Classes/Groups page.
