Administrators: After reading Overview of the Growth report and accessing the report on your device, use this article to help you interpret your students' results in more detail.
To analyze the district-level or school-level Benchmark Growth report:
- In the drop-down menus at the top of the report:
School Administrators: Select a school if you have more than 1 school. Do not select a group and/or student.
District Administrators: Leave the report at the district level (i.e., do not select a school, group, and/or student). - Click the applicable tab to review Literacy scores, Oral Vocabulary scores, or Lexile measures.
- Use the Test Windows filter to select 1 or more assessments.
Note
When you select a single assessment, all students will display in the report. When you select more than 1 assessment, only students with a score in all of the selected assessments will display in the report. - Based on how many assessments you selected, click on a tab below to analyze your students' results.
Overall Placement/At-a-Glance View (top left)
Students tested: The number of students with a score on the assessment out of the total number of students in the school or district. Students who test out of an assessment do not have a score and are therefore not counted as tested.
Test dates: The date range of the assessment window for the assessment you selected in the Test Windows filter.
Bar graph: There is one vertical bar graph for the assessment you selected.- For Literacy, the vertical bar shows the percentage of students who performed above grade level, on grade level, 1 grade below, and 2 or more grades below grade level.
- For Oral Vocabulary, the vertical bar shows the percentage of students working on Basic Vocabulary, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Academic Vocabulary.
- For Lexile, the vertical bar shows the percentage of students who performed above grade level, on grade level, and below grade level.
Status Definition Completed Students who finished and submitted the assessment. Expired Students for whom more than 28 calendar days have passed since they last worked on their assessment. Note
In some instances, you can reassign the Benchmark or Placement test so that students can restart it. The Reading Level Assessment (RLA) can only be reassigned by contacting Product Support.
In Progress Students who have already started but not yet finished the assessment. Students can log out during an assessment and pick up where they left off in their next session. Not Started Students who have not yet begun their assessment. Tested Out Applies to the Literacy and Oral Vocabulary tabs only. Students who will not be given the assessment because they are already working significantly above grade level.
Note
Students who are performing significantly above grade level may automatically test out of either the Literacy or the Oral Vocabulary portion of the Benchmark. Students can't test out of both sections. They also can't test out of the Reading Level Assessment (RLA).
Not eligible Applies to the Lexile tab only. To be eligible to take the Reading Level Assessment, the following conditions must be met:
- The test must be enabled
- The student must be in Grade 2 or higher
- The student must have completed or tested out of the Primary Decodable Books
Grade Placement Overview/5-Minute View (top right)
Bar graphs: The bars show the total percentage of students in each classification in each grade in your district or school. If there are no students in that grade, the grade will not appear on the graph. In addition, students who have not yet taken the assessment or who tested out are not included in the percentages.

The following tabs will be available depending on the level at which you are analyzing the data.

The data in this portion of the report includes:
Grade/School/Group: An alphabetical list of the organizations or a numeric list of grade levels.
Students Tested: The number of students with a score on the assessment compared to the number of eligible rostered students in that organization or grade.
A column with the percentage of students in each classification: For Literacy and Lexile, this is the grade level classification; for Oral Vocabulary, this is Basic, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.Overall Placement/At-a-Glance View (top left)
Students in report: The number of students with a score on all of the assessments you selected in the Test Windows filter.
Total students enrolled: The count of students in the district or school.
Bar graph: For each grade level, there is one vertical bar graph for each assessment.- For Literacy, the vertical bar shows the percentage of students who performed above grade level, on grade level, 1 grade below, and 2 or more grades below grade level.
- For Oral Vocabulary, the vertical bar shows the percentage of students working on Basic Vocabulary, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Academic Vocabulary.

As a quick way to know your students' scores are improving, look for more green and less orange and red (on the Literacy and Lexile tabs) and more dark blue and less light blue (on the Oral Vocabulary tab) as the year progresses.
Grade Placement Overview/5-Minute View (top right)
Bar graphs: For each grade in your organization, there is a bar for each assessment that shows the total percentage of students in each classification. If there are no students in that grade, the grade will not appear on the graph. In addition, students who have not yet taken the assessment or who tested out are not included in the percentages.
