Students in Grades K-8 earn stars by completing lessons and passing mastery checks. The stars they earn unlock rewards in the Fun Center, where they can choose sidekicks (or avatars) and backgrounds to personalize their learning environment. Use this article to help your students learn how to choose different sidekicks and backgrounds that they have unlocked.
Note
The sidekicks and backgrounds available to students in Grades K-5 are different than those available to students in Grades 6-12. Also, the reward system is not active for students in Grades 9-12, though these students are still able to personalize their MyPath experience by following the steps below.
To choose a student sidekick or background
- Log in to Imagine MyPath.
- Click Go or Start on any tile on their home page.

Students in Grades K-6: Click the stars count in the top right corner of the screen. That is the total number of stars the student has earned so far in MyPath.
Students in Grades 9-12: Proceed to the next step. -
Students in Grades K-6: Click My Stuff. Here, students can see what sidekicks and backgrounds they have unlocked and make other selections.
Students in Grades 9-12: Click their name in the top right and then click My Stuff in the drop-down list that appears.

By default, students are taken to their available sidekicks first. Choose a different sidekick to see a preview on the right.

Click Backgrounds on the left navigation and choose a different background to see a preview on the right.
- After making their selections, students can click the X in the upper right to return to their course map or My Assignments page.
Their sidekick and background will be updated.
