Assigning retakes to students in Imagine+ Assessment

The Imagine+ Diagnostic and Screener assessments provide essential data to guide instruction and placement. However, there are times when a student may need to retake an assessment to ensure the results are accurate and reliable. Imagine+ Assessment offers several ways for educators to manage retakes, depending on the specific scenario and the number of students involved.

This article provides an overview of the different methods for assigning retakes and describes the scenarios in which each action is recommended. It also covers when it may be necessary for an Administrator to reopen a closed assessment window to allow for a retake.

Methods for managing retakes

There are two primary ways to facilitate an assessment retake for students:

  • Bulk-reassigning an assessment: For reassigning an assessment to multiple students at once.
  • Reassigning an assessment to an individual: For reassigning an assessment to a single student.

Scenarios for assigning retakes

The table below outlines common scenarios that may require an assessment retake and provides the recommended action for each. Use this guide to determine the best course of action based on your needs.

Scenario Recommended Action Who can do it Learn More
A group of students was impacted by a technical issue or other disruption and needs to retake the Diagnostic or Screener. Use the Flexible Scheduler to reassign the assessment in bulk to the affected students. District & School Administrators Bulk-reassigning an assessment
A single student's Diagnostic score seems inaccurate due to rapid guessing, distractions, or receiving outside help. Reassign the Diagnostic to the student from their individual Diagnostic report. Teachers, School Administrators, & District Administrators Reassigning the Imagine+ Diagnostic
A single student needs to retake only one or a few Screener subtests due to invalid results (e.g., a microphone issue during an oral subtest). Reassign the Screener from the student's individual Screener report. This will launch the assessment in Unlocked Mode, allowing the student to navigate directly to the needed subtests. Teachers, School Administrators, & District Administrators Reassigning the Imagine+ Screener
You need to reassign an assessment to a student, but the testing window has already closed.

Step 1: Reopen the closed assessment window.
Step 2: Reassign the test to the student(s) using the appropriate method from this table.

Important considerations

  • Data Preservation: Be aware of how retakes affect student data.
    • When the Diagnostic is reassigned, data from the previous attempt is fully replaced in reports once the new attempt is submitted.
    • When the Screener is reassigned, only the scores for retaken subtests are updated; scores for subtests that were not retaken are preserved.
  • Screener Retakes: When the Screener is reassigned, it enters Unlocked Mode, which allows students to access any subtest. It is critical to instruct the student on which specific subtests to complete before they submit their retake.
  • Assessment Windows: Reassignments require an open assessment window. If a window is closed, an Administrator must first reopen it before a retake can be assigned. Reopening the window is also the correct action to allow students who were absent to complete their first attempt.
