Students in Grades K–8 earn stars as they complete lessons and activities. Stars unlock rewards students can use to personalize their experience, such as sidekicks and backgrounds.
How students earn stars depends on the lesson type and whether the lesson appears in a pathway or an assignment.
Examples of Grade K–5 rewards:
- Sidekicks
- Backgrounds
Examples of Grade 6–8 rewards:
- Sidekicks
- Backgrounds
Note
In products that include Grades 9–12, the star reward system does not apply to those grades. Students in Grades 9–12 can still personalize their experience by choosing sidekicks and backgrounds, but they do not need to earn stars to unlock them.
How students earn stars
Students can earn up to 10 stars per lesson. A mastery check is a short check that shows whether a student is ready to move on.
| Lesson type | Where it appears | How stars are earned |
|---|---|---|
| K–2 Practice lessons | Imagine+ Math Mastery pathway and K–2 Practice lessons in Assignment Builder |
|
| Grades 3–8 Practice or Mastery lessons in pathways | Pathway lessons that include a first mastery check |
|
| Grades 3–8 Practice or Mastery lessons in assignments | Assignment Builder lessons without a first mastery check |
|
| Instruction lessons | MyPath Math and Imagine+ Math Builder pathways and Instruction lessons in Assignment Builder |

Stars are not taken away after a student earns them. Stars also add up across a student's MyPath Math and MyPath Reading enrollments.
Students can track their rewards and progress in My Rewards, including My Levels, My Progress, and My Stuff.
