Self-rostering Math accounts through bulk import

The steps in this article apply only if you have selected the BULK IMPORT Self-Managed rostering option.

This article applies to the following products:

At the beginning of a new school year or when you first start using the Imagine Math Suite products, you'll need to use the Import Wizard to create educator accounts, student accounts, and classrooms so that all users can log into the Imagine Math Suite.

You can also use this tool to update existing accounts during the school year. As long as the student ID stays the same, any other data fields you change in the spreadsheet will be reflected in the students' accounts.

If you are an Administrator, you can upload files via the Import Wizard to create educator and student accounts; if you are a Teacher, you can only create student accounts.

You can also use the Import Wizard to update any existing accounts or classrooms.

This article walks you through these steps:

Adding Educator accounts through bulk import (Administrators only)

When you add educator accounts, you can add and update classrooms and teachers, and assign teachers to classrooms.

To add educator accounts through bulk import:

  1. Log in to the Imagine Math Suite. If you are rostering students in both Math products, choose either of them to begin the rostering process. 
  2. Click Management > Educators in the left navigation bar. 
  3. On the Educators page, click Import.

  4. In the Upload a CSV section, click Get Started.
  5. On the Getting Started screen, choose Add Teachers and Classrooms from the Select an Import Type drop-down menu, then click Next.
  6. On the Upload File screen, click Download Template. Fill out the file according to the specifications here. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk(*):


    Field Description
    first_name* 

    Enter the educator's first name.

     Note

    The first name cannot begin with or contain a number (i.e. 1, 2, 3), comma, or special character (i.e., &, @, #, $, ?).

    last_name* 

    Enter the educator's last name.

     Note

    The last name cannot begin with or contain a number (i.e. 1, 2, 3), comma, or special character (i.e., &, @, #, $, ?).

    teacher_email* 

    Enter the educator's email address. The email address must contain all lowercase lowers and be in this format: username@domain (for example, joe.davis@jefferson.edu).

    Educators will use their email address to log in to the Imagine Math portal, so all email addresses must be unique within your district.

    classroom_name* 

    Enter the name of the primary classroom to which you want to assign the educator.

     Note

    In order to assign an educator to multiple classrooms, they need to be first created in the educator import and can then be added to additional classrooms during the student import.

  7. Click Select File to browse for and choose your import file, and then click Next.

     Note

    Your import file must be a CSV file in order to be imported correctly.

  8. On the Confirm Import page, review your information, resolve any errors, and click Next.
  9. From the Import Summary screen, you can Start a New Import, Upload Another File, or Return to Dashboard.

Adding Student accounts through bulk import

When you add student accounts through bulk import, you can add students and enroll them in the default pathway.

To add student accounts through bulk import

  1. Log in to the Imagine Math Suite. If you are rostering students in both Math products, choose either of them to begin the rostering process. You will be able to enroll students in both products from whichever product you select.
  2. Click Management > Students in the left navigation bar. 
  3. Click Add Students.
  4. Under the Upload a CSV section, click Get Started.
  5. On the Getting Started screen, choose Add Students and Classrooms from the Select an Import Type drop-down menu, then click Next.
  6. On the Upload File screen, click Download Template. Fill out the file according to the specifications here. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk(*):
    Field Description
    first_name*  

    Enter the student's first name.

     Note

    The first name cannot begin with or contain a number (i.e. 1, 2, 3), comma, or special character (i.e., &, @, #, $, ?).

    last_name* 

    Enter the student's last name.

     Note

    The last name cannot begin with or contain a number (i.e. 1, 2, 3), comma, or special character (i.e., &, @, #, $, ?).

    grade_level_name* 

    Enter the student’s nominal grade level. Choose from these levels: PK, K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Algebra Readiness, Algebra I, Geometry, HS Math I, and HS Math II.

    username* 

    Enter the student's unique, alphanumeric username that they will use to log in to the Imagine Learning Math portal.

     Note

    If you leave this field blank, Imagine Learning will automatically generate a username for this student.

    password* 

    Enter the student's password (at least 8 characters long) that they will use to log in to the Imagine Math portal. 

     Note

    If you leave this field blank, Imagine Learning will automatically generate a password for this student.

    audio_support_language* 

    Enter whether the student can hear audio in Spanish. Enter es to allow students to hear Spanish audio.

     Note

    If you leave this field blank, the student will not be able to hear Spanish audio.

    glossary_audio_support_language* 

    For Imagine Math 3+ students: Enter whether the student can hear glossary audio translated into another language.

    Choose from these languages: en for English, es for Spanish, ar for Arabic, ht for Hatian-Creole, tl for Tagalog, and vi for Vietnamese.

     Note

    If you leave this field blank, the student will not be able to hear glossary audio translated into another language unless their account is updated later.

    student_information_number* 

    Specify the unique ID for the student. All student information numbers must be unique within your district.

    alt_student_information_number 

    Specify the unique alternate ID for the student, typically used for the state ID. All alternate student information numbers must be unique within your district.

    student_is_iep* 

    Indicate whether the student has an active Individualized Education Program (IEP) in place. Choose Y for Yes or N for No.

     Note

    By default, blank cells indicate No.

    classroom_name* 
    Enter the name of the classroom to which the student should be assigned.

     Note

    If you need to assign students to multiple classrooms, you should use assisted rostering

    teacher_email* 

    Enter the email address of the teacher to whom the student should be assigned.

    enroll_in_default_pathway*  

    At the classroom level, specifies whether to enroll the student in their grade-level default pathway. Choose Y for Yes or N for No.

    All students with the same value in the classroom_name field must have the same value in the enroll_in_default_pathway field.

     Note

    By default, blank cells indicate No.

    allow_calculator*  

    For Imagine Math 3+ students: At the classroom level, specifies whether to let students access the built-in calculator. Enter Y for Yes or N for No.

    All students with the same value in the classroom_name field must have the same value in the allow_calculator field.

     Note

    By default, blank cells indicate No.

  7. Click Select File to browse for and choose your import file, then click Next.

     Note

    Your import file must be a CSV file in order to be imported correctly.

  8. On the Confirm Import page, review all information, correct errors if necessary, and click Next.
  9. If your organization has purchased both Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts, click Next. Check the appropriate program box(es) for each student, then click Assign.

    You'll receive a confirmation message.
  10. You are finished with the import and can click Start New Import, Upload Another File, or Return to Dashboard.
