Navigating the student experience in Imagine MyPath

 Note

This article applies to the following products:

  • Imagine MyPath Math
  • Imagine MyPath Reading
  • Imagine Purpose

Imagine MyPath empowers students to master grade-level skills in Math and Reading through individualized, adaptive learning paths. Each path is built from interactive lessons and ongoing mastery checks that adjust to student performance, keeping learning personalized, engaging, and age-appropriate. Diverse accessibility and language support features make Imagine MyPath accessible for all learners.

 Important update

Starting with the 2025–26 school year, MyPath Assessment is transitioning to Imagine+ Assessment and will become the Imagine+ Diagnostic. MyPath customers from the 2024–25 school year who used the MyPath Assessment will receive complimentary access to Imagine+ Assessment. The student experience within assessments will remain the same, and placement into MyPath learning paths will continue to function as before.

Learn more about this transition or explore the Imagine+ Assessment Help Center.

This article introduces the core student experience in Imagine MyPath and provides practical guidance for educators to support student success. For tips on maximizing outcomes, see Recommendations for maximizing learning outcomes. Short overview videos are included at the bottom of this article and can be shown to students as you guide them through key features and routines.

Getting started

  1. Students log in to the Product Portal.
  2. Product tiles appear based on product assignment. Students click a product tile to launch the program.

  3. On the program home page, students see a subject tile (Reading, Math, or Purpose). If a teacher has assigned work using Assignment Builder, a My Assignments tile will also be visible. Students can click Go on a subject tile to enter their course map or Go on "My Assignments" to see teacher-assigned activities.

     Note

Subject tiles and course maps look different depending on grade band, but the workflow is the same. Screenshots in this article show the grades K–5 experience; see the videos at the end for other grade bands.

  4. If students click Go on a subject tile (Math and Reading only) and a Diagnostic assessment has been scheduled, students are prompted to complete it before accessing their learning path. If students haven't been placed or scheduled to take an assessment yet, they will see a message that says a test is on the way and to ask their teacher for help.

  5. The course map displays all lessons in the student's learning path. Students must work sequentially and can only access one lesson at a time.

  6. For Math and Reading, ongoing mastery checks and adaptivity refine each student's path as they work. In Imagine Purpose, learning paths are fixed.

Assessment Differences

Students may see a different initial experience depending on how their path is set up:

  • If the Imagine+ Diagnostic is scheduled, students are redirected to the assessment and return to MyPath when finished.
  • If the MyPath Assessment is scheduled, students complete it in MyPath before accessing their course map.
  • If NWEA MAP Growth or Renaissance Star scores are imported, or if placement is set manually/by grade, students can begin working in their path immediately—no assessment required.

Progress tracking, personalization, and goal-setting

  1. Students can easily monitor their own usage and progress from their My Progress page. See Viewing the My Progress page for students in Imagine MyPath for more information.

  2. Students in grades K–8 earn stars by completing activities and lessons. Earned stars unlock rewards that students can use to personalize their learning experience. The rewards system is not enabled for students in grades 9–12, but all students can still personalize their experience by choosing different sidekicks and backgrounds on their My Stuff page. See Viewing student rewards in Imagine MyPath for more information.

  3. Teachers can use student goal sheets to help students set targets and monitor their progress in Imagine MyPath. To use them:
    • Click the appropriate goal sheet thumbnail below to download the PDF for your students' grade band (K–2 or 3–12).
    • Print the goal sheets for students to use in class. Students fill them out with help from the teacher, using information from their My Progress page (such as total stars earned, time spent, current level, and lessons completed or passed).
    • Teachers may use these sheets for weekly goal-setting, ongoing self-monitoring, and/or student-teacher conferences to review individual progress.

    Tip

Goal sheets can be used across multiple weeks (up to 4) for ongoing goal-setting and reflection. We recommend setting aside a few minutes each week for students to update their progress and review their goals.

Student experience videos

These short videos describe the student experience in different grade bands and in both Reading and Math. If you want to play a video for your students, we recommend describing what is being shown as it plays. There isn't a voiceover to provide narration, so having you there to guide their eyes will be helpful.
