Assessment and placement options in Imagine MyPath and Imagine+ Math

Use this article to understand the assessment and placement options available in Imagine MyPath and Imagine+ Math.

Administrators select the assessment option during implementation planning with their Imagine Learning Customer Success Manager.

Schools and districts can use these assessment options:

 Note

In Imagine+ Math, students begin in the Math Mastery pathway by default. Assessment data can help determine whether a placement or pathway change is needed after students begin using the program. For more about pathway types, see Understanding the two purpose-built pathways in Imagine+ Math.

Plan your assessment schedule

Imagine Learning recommends giving assessments 3–4 times during the school year.

When possible, leave about 45 days between assessment windows so students have time to show growth.

 Caution

Avoid changing assessment types in the middle of the school year. Different assessments use different scoring systems, so changing assessment types can make growth harder to compare.

Understand placement options

Assessment data can be used to support student placement.

Students can begin working before assessment data is available, and teachers or administrators can place them manually when needed.

Assessment-based placement

Assessment results determine where students begin and what content they see.

  • In Imagine MyPath, assessment results determine each student's placement grade, which sets the level of content they receive.
  • In Imagine+ Math, assessment results determine each student's placement grade and can inform whether a different pathway type is needed.

Manual placement

Teachers and administrators can place students manually when assessment data is not available or does not match the student’s current needs.

  • A student needs to begin working before assessment data is available.
  • Assessment results do not reflect the student’s current performance.
  • Classroom performance or local data supports a different placement decision.
