Language support in Imagine+ Assessment

Imagine+ Assessment includes a range of language support features that make its adaptive Math and ELA assessments accessible to multilingual learners. This article explains which language tools are available, how they differ by assessment type, and how educators can enable them for students.

Available language-support tools

  • Spanish test delivery: Students can take trans-adapted versions of the Math diagnostic in Spanish for grades K–12. Spanish directions are also available for Imagine+ Screener (grades K–3).
  • Text-to-speech (TTS): An educator-enabled audio reader that can read all on-screen text aloud. TTS is available for every Imagine+ Diagnostic item and for items on Imagine+ Formatives.
  • On-screen translation: A built-in tool that translates selected passages and answer choices. In Imagine+ Diagnostic, translation is available into Spanish. In Imagine+ Formatives, students can use the Language menu to translate text into Spanish and other supported languages; some languages can also be read aloud with TTS).
  • Universal testing tools: Line Reader, Highlighter, Strikethrough, Notes, and other student tools are built into the Imagine+ Assessment player. Availability can differ by assessment type and item, so some tools (such as Dictionary or Translation) may be disabled on certain Formatives.

Enabling language supports

All language support features must be enabled by an educator before students can use them. To edit a student’s profile and turn on language tools, see Viewing, editing, and deleting student accounts.

Testing accommodations

Imagine+ Assessment supports additional accommodations commonly required in IEPs and 504 plans:

  • Scribe support: An adult can record student responses without coaching.
  • Screen reader compatibility: Assessment interfaces are designed to work with screen readers and align to WCAG-2.1 AA guidelines.
  • Oral presentation: Proctors may read items aloud in English or Spanish for students who need it.
  • Extended time and alternate setting: Flexible scheduler allows multi-day testing and small-group sessions.

Best practices for multilingual learners

  • Match the student’s assessment language to classroom instruction whenever possible.
  • Enable TTS for emerging readers; combine with headphones to reduce distractions.
  • Use the Spanish glossary where it is available to support precise mathematical vocabulary.
  • Schedule assessments in distraction-free environments and allow breaks to minimize fatigue.
