Note
This article applies to the following products:
- Imagine MyPath Math
- Imagine MyPath Reading
Use this guidance when your district uses an external assessment that does not integrate with Imagine MyPath and you need to manually assign an initial placement grade for students.
For supported assessment options, see Assessment and placement options in Imagine MyPath and Imagine+ Math.
Caution
A manual placement assigns one overall grade-level placement. It does not create domain-specific placements. If a student already has domain-specific placements, a manual placement replaces them with one overall grade-level placement.
Choose a placement grade
Before you assign placements, review the data provided by the external assessment and decide how your district or school will convert that data into an overall grade-level placement.
Use a grade-level equivalent
If the external assessment provides a grade-level equivalent, use that score to select a placement grade in Imagine MyPath.
Students can be placed only at the beginning of a grade level. Round a student's grade-level equivalent down to the nearest whole grade before assigning the placement.
Use another assessment measure
If the external assessment does not provide a grade-level equivalent, your district or school must define how it will convert the available assessment data into an overall placement grade.
For example, your district or school may use percentile ranks or another reported score to create a local placement rule. Document the rule and apply it consistently for students who take the same assessment.
Contact your Customer Success Manager if you need assistance or guidance when developing an approach to student grade-level placements.
Assign the placement
After your district or school determines a student's overall placement grade, assign that placement in Imagine MyPath.
See Editing a student's placement in Imagine MyPath and Imagine+ Math for instructions.
