Imagine+ Screener in Imagine+ Assessment is a literary screener for PreK–Grade 3 that measures foundational literacy skills. It helps educators identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulties, including characteristics of dyslexia.
Imagine+ Screener is a research-backed literacy screener developed in collaboration with Boston Children's Hospital and the Florida Center for Reading Research.
Key features
- Foundational literacy skills: The Screener measures key early literacy skills across multiple subtests.
- Adaptive design: The Screener adjusts subtest difficulty based on student responses for more precise skill measurement.
- Game-based experience: Pip the toucan guides students through interactive tasks.
- Predictive indicators and percentiles: Results include predictive indicators and nationally normed percentiles by skill to help educators identify students who may need additional support.
- Spanish support: Instructions and caregiver guidance for interpreting family reports are available in Spanish.
Administration
- Locked Mode: Subtests follow a set sequence for standardized administration.
- Unlocked Mode: Educators can direct students to specific subtests for targeted retesting.
- Scheduling: Administrators set up screening windows in the Scheduler tool in Imagine+ Assessment.
- Time needed: Comprehensive screening takes about 20 minutes in PreK, 45 minutes in Kindergarten, and 30 minutes in Grades 1–3.
- Administration options: The Screener can be administered one-on-one or in a small group with adult oversight.
Student experience
- PreK–K: Students use interactive tasks with audio support and practice opportunities.
- Grades 1–3: Students use a streamlined interface with age-appropriate rewards.
- Pause and resume: Students can leave the Screener after completing a subtest and return later. Their progress saves automatically.
Reports and data
After students complete the Screener, educators can review class-level and student-level results to see performance by skill area, predictive indicators, nationally normed percentiles, and next instructional steps.
- Class-level data: Shows class results by skill area, including nationally normed percentiles, predictive indicators, and scores for letter name and letter sound inventories.
- Student-level profiles: Show subtest results by skill area, nationally normed percentiles, predictive indicators, scores for letter name and letter sound inventories, and Next Step Resources for individual students.
- Potential for Word Reading (PWR): For Grades K–3, this predictive score shows how likely a student is to meet an end-of-year word reading benchmark.
- Color-coded percentile bands: Dark Blue marks well-below-benchmark performance at or below the 20th percentile, Light Blue marks below-benchmark performance from the 21st to 40th percentile, and White marks at-or-above-benchmark performance above the 40th percentile.
- Next Step Resources: Results include links to lesson plans and progress-monitoring tools to support targeted instruction.
