Units in Imagine Español are divided into lessons, which are subdivided into activities. Open up a question below to learn more.
Imagine Español learning paths are based on grade levels between Grades K–5:
- Students in PreK and K automatically begin with the Kindergarten learning path.
- In Grade 1 and above, each student's grade-level learning path is determined by their results on the Placement assessment. The assigned learning path is based on the student's assessed grade rather than their rostered grade, and students always start at the very beginning of their assessed grade. For example, all students who are placed in the Grade 2 learning path complete the first activity in the Grade 2 path; it is not possible to get placed mid-way through a path.
Note
Imagine Español content stops at Grade 5. If students are rostered in Grade 6 or above, their learning path will still be assigned between Grades K–5.
Once students begin their pathway, they can skip activities (or even entire units) based on their performance on the built-in interim checkpoints they encounter in the pathway as well as their success on similar activities. See question 4 for more information.
- All grade levels contain 6 to 8 units.
- Kindergarten has up to 11 lessons per unit, but most other units contain between 4 and 6 lessons.
- The number of activities per lesson varies widely. Some lessons have as few as 6 or 8 lessons, and some have 40 lessons. The longest lessons occur in Grades 1 and 2. However, overall, most lessons have at least 20 activities.
Since both the number of activities in each lesson as well as each activity's length vary, it's difficult to state an average lesson length, but each lesson could easily take more than an hour.
Imagine Español's "Smart Sequencer" will add or skip activities into students' assignments based on:
- The grade-level content of the activity
- How well the student performed on certain skills
Additional information:
- All students in Grade 2 and below will intentionally be cycled through built-in foundational skills checkpoints such as letters and sounds every 30 days to be sure they are mastering these critical areas.
- Units in Grades 3–5 are organized by book studies. If students ace the vocabulary pre-test for an upcoming book, they can skip the pre-reading vocabulary practice and jump straight to the book itself. Similarly, if students demonstrate proficiency in reading comprehension, they'll skip to more difficult books; if they prove knowledge of one type of accents, they'll move quickly to another type.
All Imagine Español lessons have remediation available; the remediation activities are inserted immediately after a student demonstrates need of them. This can occur multiple times within the same lesson.
