Imagine MyPath Math and Imagine+ Math provide Answer Rationales to help educators interpret student performance on Mastery Check items. Answer Rationales explain the reasoning behind correct and incorrect answer choices so you can better understand student thinking and identify learning needs.
Teachers and Administrators can view Answer Rationales by opening lesson details from supported reports and Assignment Builder. Answer Rationales are available on-screen only and cannot be printed.
Where Answer Rationales are available
Answer Rationales are available on Mastery Check items. Availability depends on the product and where you access the lesson.
- Imagine MyPath Math: Available for all learning path lessons in Grades K–12
- Imagine+ Math: Available for Builder pathway lessons in Grades K–12 and Mastery pathway lessons in Grades 3–8
- Assignment Builder (both products): Available for Instruction lessons Grades K–12 and Practice lessons Grades 3–12
Answer Rationales are not available in Grades K–2 Mastery pathway lessons or Grades K–2 Practice lessons because those lessons do not include Mastery Checks.
To view Answer Rationales for Mastery Check items:
- Open a lesson details page. You can open lesson details from the Class Summary page, Student Progress report, Lesson Explorer in Assignment Builder, or Assignment Summary in Assignment Builder. For more help, see Accessing lesson resources as an educator in Imagine MyPath.
- Scroll down to the lesson preview. Use the Activity Type drop-down menu and select the Mastery Check you want to view.
- Click the Show Answers toggle to open the Answer Rationale panel.
- Use the page controls to move between Mastery Check items.
- Click the Show Answers toggle or Close button to collapse the panel.
How to use Answer Rationales
Review Answer Rationales with Mastery Check results to identify likely misunderstandings and choose a next instructional step.
To use Answer Rationales:
- Review the student’s Mastery Check results and look for patterns in errors or incomplete understanding.
- Read the Answer Rationales for incorrect answers to identify likely misconceptions or skill gaps.
- Decide what kind of support students need next.
- Choose a follow-up activity, such as a Teacher Support, additional practice in Assignment Builder, or another available printable resource.
Use the guide below to match common Mastery Check evidence to a next step.
