Imagine MyPath uses assessment results, performance across lessons, and educator placement changes to determine the lessons in each student's learning path.
How lesson activities work
Lessons include mastery checks and learning activities. If a student does not pass a mastery check, they continue to the next planned activity in the lesson.
- Mastery checks: A lesson can include up to three mastery checks. Students who pass an earlier mastery check may complete fewer lesson activities.
- Instruction and guided practice: If a student does not pass a mastery check, they continue to the next planned activity. Remaining activities can include explicit video-based instruction followed by guided practice.
- Additional activities: Depending on the lesson, students may complete additional practice or application activities before the final mastery check.
- Guided Notes: Students in Grades 6–12 can use Guided Notes during lessons.
If a student does not pass a lesson, review their results and use lesson resources to plan one-on-one or small-group support.

How learning paths change
Performance across lessons
Mastery checks determine whether a student continues to the next activity in a lesson. Performance across multiple lessons can also affect the lessons a student receives next.
When a student does not pass multiple lessons in the same domain, Imagine MyPath may add lower-grade lessons that address the skills they need next.
Assessment results
Imagine+ Diagnostic and supported integrations with NWEA MAP Growth and Renaissance Star can update a student's placement grade and learning path.
Assessment results can affect a student's overall placement grade, domain placements, or both.

Domain-based placement
Imagine+ Diagnostic and the NWEA MAP Growth integration can use domain results to determine the lessons in a student's learning path.
A student's overall placement grade may stay the same when one or more domain placements change. In that case, Imagine MyPath can add lessons in the domains identified by the new assessment results.

Educator placement changes
Educators can manually change a student's placement grade when the current lessons do not provide the right level of instruction.
Caution
Changing a student's placement grade replaces their domain-specific placements with one overall grade-level placement. The student's learning path can still change based on performance across lessons, but it no longer uses the student's previous domain placements to select lessons.

How educators can help
- Monitor student progress: Review lesson and mastery check results to identify students who need more support.
- Provide targeted support: Use one-on-one or small-group instruction to help students with specific skills.
- Use lesson resources: Use available instructional resources to reteach skills or provide additional practice.
- Review placement: Review a student's placement when the lessons in their learning path do not match their instructional needs.
