Accessing on-demand tutors in Imagine MyPath Math

Students using Imagine MyPath Math can take advantage of On-Demand Tutoring (ODT) while working on particular components of a lesson:

  • For students in Grades 3-5, tutors are available in the Supported Practice component of each lesson.
  • For students in Grades 6-12, tutors are available in the Instruction component of each lesson.

Students can access an on-demand tutor as many times as needed. There is no limit to how often they can connect with a tutor. It also doesn't matter if the lesson is part of a student's learning path (ILP) or if the lesson was assigned via the Assignment Builder. Students can take the initiative to connect with an on-demand tutor or MyPath Math may proactively suggest that students work with a tutor when certain conditions are met. Click the applicable tab to learn about each process. You can also use these printable guides to encourage students to use the service.

Accessing On-Demand Tutoring

Student-Initiated Access Proactive Intervention

The on-demand tutoring (ODT) icon is located in the bottom left but is greyed out until a student has submitted at least 1 incorrect answer.

If a student tries to click on the icon before answering, a message appears that encourages the student to try answering the question on their own first.

After an incorrect answer, the ODT icon becomes active, and students can click on it to initiate a request for help.

A pop-up will appear after clicking the ODT icon. Students can click Chat Now to confirm that they want help from a tutor or Close to return to the lesson.

Using On-Demand Tutoring

When a student clicks Chat Now, ODT will launch in a new tab of their browser. The tutor will begin the chat by greeting the student. It may take 30-60 seconds for a tutor to initiate the chat, so students are encouraged to be patient.

Students can respond to tutors by typing in the chat box or using voice-to-text. The tutor may also invite the student to collaborate using a digital whiteboard. If the tutor would like to conduct an audio call with the student, they will initiate a huddle.

To connect to a Spanish-speaking tutor, students should request it when the chat first begins or simply respond to the tutor's greeting in Spanish, and then they will be transferred to a bilingual instructor if their current tutor can no longer assist.

To end a chat, students should click the X in the top right corner of the page and then End conversation to confirm. Students will resume their lesson where they left off before initiating the chat.

The tutoring platform saves each chat transcript. While in a tutoring session, students can click the Homework Help tab to review transcripts of chats from previous sessions.

If you would like a copy of a chat transcript, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) and provide them with the student's username.

 Note

If a student behaves inappropriately during a tutoring session, the tutor flags the chat as inappropriate. The tutoring team reviews flagged chat sessions and takes any necessary actions, including notifying the school.
