Language support in Imagine Galileo

Imagine Galileo offers students 2 language-support tools when students are taking an assessment:

  • The translator (Google Translate) translates the text and buttons on the page into 1 of over 20 languages.

Google Translate is available for the languages listed below.
    • Albanian
    • Arabic
    • Bengali
    • Bosnian
    • Chinese (Simplified)
    • Chinese (Traditional)
    • Filipino
    • French
    • German
    • Haitian Creole
    • Hmong
    • Italian
    • Japanese
    • Khmer
    • Korean
    • Myanmar (Burmese)
    • Pashto
    • Persian
    • Polish
    • Portuguese
    • Russian
    • Somali
    • Spanish
    • Thai
    • Urdu
    • Vietnamese

     Note

The translator only translates the following item types on an assessment:

    • Multiple Choice
    • Open Response
    • Short Answer
  • Text-to-speech is an audio feature that reads text passages, question instructions, and/or answer choices out loud for students. The audio only plays in English, even if a different language is selected in Google Translate. In addition, text-to-speech is only an option for students in Grades 2–12 (because the tests for students in Grades K–1 are already formatted as audio tests).

Both of the language features must be enabled by an educator before students can access them in-product. The features are enabled on a test-by-test basis.

 Note

The only tests that are developed and delivered in Spanish are the Spanish Language Assessments (SLAs). Google Translate is not available for the Spanish tests since they are already in Spanish.

If you are using Imagine Galileo ELA Benchmarks as your assessment provider for Imagine Language & Literacy, these tests will be delivered in English for all students. Students can then use Google Translate (if enabled for that test) to read the test in Spanish or another language.
