When a student logs into the MyPath system, they arrive on their landing page. The look and feel will vary based on the student’s enrollment grade.
Navigating through Subjects
Depending on the number of subjects a student was enrolled in, they will appear on the landing page. The three options available are Math, Reading, and Social and Emotional Learning.
Math and Reading
A student can be manually placed, without an assessment, in a learning path that is individualized to their needs. Students will be assigned a placement grade that corresponds with the concepts they have yet to learn. This corresponds to the student's ability and learning levels, and what the assessment indicates their instructional level should be, There are three assessment options available for a student to be assigned a placement grade- the MyPath Assessment, NWEA, and Renaissance.
The MyPath Assessment is a standards-based benchmark assessment that informs instruction, identifies students in need of intervention, and provides data to educators on how students are growing in their learning. There is a Math and a Reading Assessment available and schools/districts can choose to have one or both assessments enabled. If enabled at the start of each assessment window, students will be prompted with the assessment as soon as they select Go or Let’s Go! for that subject.
If a school/district partners with NWEA or Renaissance, the MyPath K-12 program can import the student’s test scores. Then a student will be placed into a placement grade based on their score from the third-party assessment.
An educator is strongly encouraged to verify that all students in their class have been assigned a placement grade. Without a placement, students will not be assigned a learning path, therefore, they will be unable to begin working.
An educator can manually place a student into a placement grade, but it is recommended to have them take an assessment.
Manual placement is a feature in MyPath through which teachers can ensure each student’s ILP is correct.
MyPath, NWEA, Renaissance assessments are one way to generate a placement grade, but students could be having a bad day when they took the test, or they might be bad test takers. If the teachers feel that the assessment result is not an accurate reflection of the student’s learning level, then they can manually edit the student's placement grade.
Also, if any student does not have a placement grade, for whatever reason, teachers can assign a placement grade based on their knowledge of the student’s skill/learning level.
After a student completes MyPath's Math or Reading Assessment, they can begin working on their learning path. They will click Go or Let’s Go! for the respective subject and be taken to the course map of the lessons in their learning path. They will click Go to launch the next lesson. Social and Emotional Learning
Social and Emotional Learning content is based on the student’s enrollment grade. Upon clicking Go or Let’s Go! a student will begin the content. To learn more about the SEL content, check out the welcome page.
MyPath K-12 program reinforces positive self-concept for students while they earn rewards for making progress. Students are awarded stars for completing activities and receive a bonus for passing lessons. Students are never penalized for failing a mastery check or lesson.
Earning stars, levels, and unlocking rewards is for K-8. Students in 9-12 do not have stars or levels, all customization is unlocked by default.
As students earn stars, they unlock backgrounds and avatars that can be used to customize their learning experience.
