Supported Alt-Code Characters
You can manually enter and show alt-code characters in the Students, Educators, and Classes fields:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Username
- Email Address (see exceptions below)
- Class Name
Note
While manually creating or updating user accounts, if a prohibited special character is entered in the Username field and the user attempts to save it, a field validation error message will display to prompt the user to correct the error. An example image of this scenario is shown below, involving a student updating their Username.
Caution
Alt-code characters cannot be used when setting passwords for Students and Educators, but keyboard special characters are acceptable. Passwords are restricted to a maximum length of 32 characters. For a list of supported keyboard special characters, view Supported Keyboard Special Characters.
To ensure the proper display of certain alt-code characters in the application, special handling of bulk import and update files is needed.

Keyboard special characters in the Email Address are NOT supported. Currently, the @ ampersat, - hyphen/dash, and . period, are supported.
