The Progress by Lesson report shows how your students are performing in each lesson in Imagine Language & Literacy and helps you interpret student performance across all lessons. The report includes data for all school years the students have been using the program, allowing you to track progress over time.
The report shows:
- where each student was initially placed in Imagine Language & Literacy and which lessons they skipped (tested out of)
- which lesson groups (groups of 6-12 lessons) the student has already completed and whether they completed them this academic year or in prior years
- the lesson group and grade level on which the student is currently working
- lesson details such as time spent on each lesson, whether it was passed or completed, and the date of the last attempt
To view the Progress by Lesson report:
- Log in to Imagine Language & Literacy.
- Click into the Progress section.
Teachers, skip to step 4.
Administrators, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the applicable Group whose progress you want to view.
The Progress section defaults to the Progress by Lesson tab, and the class-level Progress by Lesson report opens defaulted to the Literacy curriculum area. Click the Curriculum Area drop-down menu to switch between Literacy, Oral Vocabulary, and Grammar lessons.
Use the key at the top of the page to see which lesson groups students have completed, skipped, or have in progress. The legend is as follows:
Symbol Description A gray arrow indicates that the student has tested out of the lesson group. Students can test out of a lesson by showing proficiency on the Placement Test or another assessment for the skills taught in the lesson group. A white checkmark indicates that the student completed the lesson group in a previous school year. A blue checkmark indicates that the student completed the lesson group during the current school year.
A fraction indicates the student's current placement in Imagine Language & Literacy for the selected curriculum area. The fraction compares the number of lessons completed and/or in progress to the total number of lessons available within that lesson group. It is not a reflection of accuracy.
As an example, the number 5/6 means that the student has either completed the first 4 lessons in the group and is working on the 5th or has completed the first 5 lessons in the group and is about to start the 6th.
In rare cases, you may see an additional symbol. A white and blue checkmark indicates that the student completed a portion of the lesson group in a previous school year and finished the lesson group in the current school year.
- For Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2, hover over a Book Level to see the topics addressed within the books.
- Click into a Lesson Group to see the curriculum.
- The Lesson Guide opens in a new tab. Expand a section in the group to view a list of all the digital activities and their description.
- Hover over a thumbnail and click Play to play the activity. In this manner, you can view the exact activities your students receive.
Click on an arrow, checkmark, or fraction to view details about student performance in each lesson group.

The Lesson Details columns are as follows:
Column Description Curriculum Area Literacy, Oral Vocabulary, or Grammar (as selected in the Curriculum Area drop-down menu) In Remediation
A rewind symbol appears in this column if additional lessons are being inserted into the student's learning path because the student did not master the lesson content lesson the first time. Lessons can have up to 3 successive rounds of remediation where students revisit the same topic at delayed intervals. The remediation symbol persists even after the student completes all of the remediation activities.
Lesson The name of the lesson. Tested Out A gray arrow displays in this column when a student has skipped this lesson. These lessons are also marked as completed in the Completed column.
When students test out of lessons, no information displays for these lessons in the Skills Inventory report.
A green checkmark displays in this column when students have passed the lesson. "Passed" is defined as:
1. The student passed the base lesson on the first try.
2. The student completed the base lesson AND the student completed and passed the remediation activities they were assigned for that lesson.
A student may complete the remediation without passing, which would mark the lesson as Completed, but not Passed.

A blue checkmark in this column indicates that the student either tested out of the base lesson or finished the base lesson. If the lesson doesn't have a blue checkmark, the base lesson is still in progress. It is possible for students to be actively working on more than one lesson at a time.
This column indicates completion of the base lesson only. Students who are in progress with remediation but who have completed the base lesson will still have a blue checkmark in the Completed column (as will students who have completed both the base lesson and their remediation activities).
The total time in minutes and seconds that the student spent on the lesson. Time in a lesson can span more than one day or one week and can be interrupted by activities such as Benchmark assessments, Playlist activities, or lessons in another Curriculum Area. Therefore, time spent on a lesson may not directly correlate with daily or weekly usage minutes.
The most recent date that the student worked on the lesson.
After looking at the class-level report for the Literacy curriculum area, remember to change the Curriculum Area drop-down menu and look at the report for Oral Vocabulary and Grammar. Then, click into the Lesson Groups for more information.
- Click on a student's name to view the student-level Progress by Lesson report.
- The top section of the student-level report displays information for all 3 Curriculum Areas in the same view. Click into the Lesson Groups, arrows, checkmarks, and fractions as you would for the class-level report.
- The bottom section of the student-level report shows lesson details for all 3 Curriculum Areas combined. If desired, use the Filter by drop-down menu to narrow the results to the criterion you specify. You can also change the number of items that display per page—the default is 10, but you can change it to view up to 200 results at once.
- Use the arrows at the top of the page to navigate to another student's Progress by Lesson report.
