Completing teacher-assigned formatives in Imagine MyPath

Teachers and Administrators can create assignments made up of lessons or formatives. Lessons are additional opportunities for students to learn and practice specific skills and are available for grades K-12 in MyPath Math, Reading, Science Corner, and Purpose. Formatives (or quizzes) are opportunities for students to show what they have learned so far and are available for Grades K-8 in Math and Reading.

This article shows what completing the formatives looks like from a student's perspective. For more information about the K-8 formatives, refer to Understanding the pre-built formatives in Imagine MyPath.

The Student Experience

If a student has been assigned an assignment, they will see a My Assignments tile on their Imagine MyPath home page. Clicking Go on that tile takes them to their My Assignments page.

On their My Assignments page, students will see tabs in the top left for the subjects in which they have assignments. The default is to view assignments from All subjects, but students can filter the assignments by clicking a particular subject, if desired. Note that the Quiz (or formative) is labeled as such with a pink tag, and the Lesson has a blue tag.

Students click Go to open the desired assignment. In this example, the student is clicking into the Quiz.

The formative (or quiz) experience is different for K-2 students and 3+ students. Click into each tab below to see the description of each student experience.

Grades K-2 Grades 3+
  1. After selecting a quiz assignment, students click Go to open the current activity. If multiple activities make up an assignment, students can see what lies ahead or what they have completed, but those tiles are greyed out and students cannot open them. Students can only access one activity at a time within a given assignment.

  2. Students are prompted to read instructions each time they access a formative. Clicking Start takes them to the first question. If students started an assessment during a previous session, their progress is saved, but they are still taken to the first question.

  3. Questions are automatically read aloud in English for K-2 students. Clicking Play will replay the question. There are also Read Aloud and Language tools in the left-side panel.

Click the headphones to make the Read Aloud menu appear.

Students can click Play to have all of the text within the window read aloud, or they can first highlight a particular section of text that they wish to have read aloud and then click the headphones to use the tool.

Students can also choose to have the text read aloud at different speeds: Slow, Normal, or Fast.

Click anywhere on the screen to make the menu disappear.

    LanguageK2-formatives-language-tool.png

Click the globe to make the Language menu appear.

Select a language from the drop-down menu to translate the text within the window to the chosen language.

Some languages can be read aloud using the Read Aloud tool. If a language can be read aloud, the Read Aloud menu will appear after clicking the headphones. If a language cannot be read aloud, the Read Aloud icon changes to a darker shade of purple and is no longer clickable.

Refer to Language support in Imagine MyPath for the list of available languages.

  4. Students can navigate between questions using the arrows and pagination or by clicking Go.

The pagination is color-coded so students can track any unanswered questions. Light purple means the question hasn't been answered, dark purple means the question has been answered, and white indicates the current question.

  5. When students reach the final question and click Go, they are asked if they are done with the quiz. A voice also asks whether they are done. Clicking No takes them back to the quiz, so they can answer any unanswered items. Clicking Yes moves them on to the final screen.

  6. When students finish the quiz and click Yes to confirm, they are taken to this screen. Clicking Done takes them back to their My Assignments page.
