The formatives in Imagine MyPath are a collection of ready-made assessments designed to gauge student proficiency in various K-8 Math and ELA skills. There are 275+ formatives in Math and 550+ formatives in ELA that can be added to teacher-built assignments using the Assignment Builder. These formative assessments were created following best practices in test development, ensuring their accuracy and effectiveness.
Purpose
- Formatives are short, focused assessments designed to measure student proficiency in Math and ELA.
- They help educators gauge student understanding of specific skills or standards and guide further instruction.
Design
- Each formative focuses on a single skill or a small set of related skills.
- The number of items per formative varies depending on grade level and purpose (typically 3-7 items).
- Formatives are aligned to state standards for all 50 states, including Common Core. (Note: "N/A" for a standard might mean the skill is addressed in a different grade level within your state's standards.)
Use Cases
Formatives can be used flexibly by teachers to:
- Supplement existing mastery checks in student learning paths for a more holistic view of progress.
- Monitor student learning in a specific skill or set of skills.
- Assess students on skills you're working on with them outside of Imagine MyPath.
Administration
From the Assignment Builder, Teachers and Administrators can search for formatives by subject, grade, standard, and keyword. You can also:
- Preview formatives and see aligned state standards before assigning,
- Create assignments that include one or multiple formatives, and
- Assign the formatives to individuals, groups, or entire classes.
Reporting
The Assignment Summary report in the Assignment Builder provides data on student performance.
-
Group/Class-level data includes: completion status, average score per formative/standard, and student count in each proficiency category per formative/standard.
If "Supporting skill" appears next to a bar chart in the Student Performance section, that refers to items that do not directly align with your state standards but are still related to the formative's target skills. If items are aligned with your state standards, you will see bar charts and average scores for each standard assessed by the formative, and the standard code will appear to the left of the bar. Hover your mouse over the standard code to see the definition of the standard.
-
Student-level data includes: completion status, active time, scores per formative, proficiency category, and item-level results.
Additional Notes
- You cannot currently customize formatives or create your own. However, the focused nature of the pre-built formatives allows for flexibility and personalization in assessment planning.
- When completing formatives, the student experience is different for students in Grades K-2 versus 3-8.
