Imagine Science Corner (ISC) is designed to enhance core science curricula and spark curiosity in science phenomena for students in Grades K–5. This versatile program provides educators with easy-to-use materials and supports the development of essential STEM skills, preparing and inspiring students for future learning in scientific fields.
Engaging and Intentional Lesson Design
ISC lessons offer engaging, age-appropriate video lessons that are visually appealing to elementary learners. The lessons follow an intentionally designed structure that includes:
- Lesson introduction and focus question
- Video-based instruction with embedded glossary
- Engagement activity
- Supported practice
- Mastery check
The video lessons incorporate numerous opportunities for students to develop scientific vocabulary and academic discourse proficiency through embedded discourse questions and an interactive glossary.
Note
ISC is not designed to align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) or state standards. However, it does provide additional support for the Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) of these standards, enhancing and deepening students' understanding of grade-level science concepts.
Bilingual Content
All resources, including video lessons, printables, and project-based learning investigations, are available in both English and Spanish, making the content accessible to a wider range of students.
Flexible Implementation
Recognizing the diverse needs of school communities, ISC offers flexibility in its implementation. Educators can choose from various approaches:
- Default learning path: Students follow their default grade-level learning path for 20-minute sessions every other week.
- Customized learning paths: You can create custom pathways using the Assignment Builder, hand-picking lessons and assigning them to students to supplement your core science instruction.
- Project-based learning: Each grade level has a student-driven, Project-Based Learning (PBL) Investigation that can be used as a performance-based assessment. Investigations take approximately 8 hours to complete and were designed to be completed over the course of 2-3 weeks.
This adaptability allows schools to tailor the program to fit their unique goals and priorities.
Teaching Resources
ISC offers comprehensive support for educators as well as offline resources for students to make the learning experience as seamless as possible:
- PBL Investigation Implementation Guides provide the support educators need to implement all project-based learning investigations.
- Vocabulary printables are available for every lesson and can be used to reinforce key terms and extend learning in-class or at home.
Placement Grades
The default placement grade is the student's current rostered grade level. Students are automatically assigned to a learning path for their rostered grade level when ISC is enabled. For example, a Grade 3 student is automatically placed in a Grade 3 learning path.
Monitoring Student Progress
You can use many of the same reports to track student progress for ISC as you would for MyPath Math and Reading. We recommend using the following reports:
- Class Summary Report
- Usage Report (District | School | Class | Student)
